About
Sofie sausser the one-woman show behind Sunrise Silver Collective. She lives and works out of her rustic studio in Topanga Canyon, CA. While she began her career as a graphic designer, she has always been a maker of all sorts. She grew up with tactile roots- watching her mother block printing Christmas cards and grandmother painting and knitting. As a mom, she was always the one building the school play sets and sewing costumes.
She began her jewelry making journey after staying at Ghost Ranch in Santa Fe for a full crash course on the topic. She fell in love with the craft and feels at home in this art form.
She describes jewelry making as a slow craft and creates every piece with intention and care. Every step in the process proposes unique challenges and she loves that she often has to get creative with tool-making and engineering to produce her designs. She finds herself thinking of the jewelry wearer as she creates her pieces. She has found that jewelry making is very personal and fulfilling- with just the right amount of challenges to keep her pushing her and her creativity. Each piece she creates is the opposite of machine made- it is uniquely imperfect, infused with love and un-replicated.
She has taken to knitting when she is not silversmithing, babysitting her grandson or hiking the hills of Topanga. Her hands are always busy and dirty, just the way she likes it.
